KATHMANDU, Dec 2: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said on Sunday Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is the stumbling block in ongoing consensus building and that there would be no headway in that direction unless the PM steps down.

“This government we have is the obstacle in forging consensus. There is no possibility of consensus unless PM Bhattarai resigns. The country is headed to a confrontation. The government should take entire responsibility for that,” Khanal said during an interaction in the capital. [break]

The UML chief also ruled out any possibility of forming a consensus government under Bhattarai’s leadership and added that the opposition parties would give the name of the next PM once the current government stands down.

Stating that consensus should be forged within the extended deadline, Khanal said his party has left no stone unturned to reach a common political understanding, but added Maoists are not being honest to consensus making.
