The meeting held at the party´s headquarters in Sanepa termed the Maoist proposal yet another ploy to prolong their stay in power and defer fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) polls now scheduled by mid-May. [break]The meeting attended by some 20 office bearers also concluded that Maoists were demonstrating “political dishonesty” through their frequently changing stances.
Talking to Republica, NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said the meeting discussed in detail the latest proposal of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to hand over the government leadership to a civil society leader with political background against the previous agreement to handover the government leadership to the NC.

“The meeting has concluded that the proposal is not aimed at resolving political deadlock. We have decided not to change our stance on resolving the deadlock,” said Badu, adding that NC CWC meeting has already forwarded the candidacy of Sushil Koirala in the line with the party´s stance that the new prime minister should be from a political party.
Though a few CWC members argued that the NC should give in to the prime minister´s demand if there was a guarantee of fresh CA polls by mid-May, majority were opposed to the stance.
The CWC members who were against the proposal argued that such a move would not only destroy party system but also leave the current deadlock unresolved, according to a CWC member Sita Gurung.
NC CWC member and a key interlocutor in the inter-party meeting, Dr Minendra Rijal said the meeting unanimously concluded that ever changing stances of the ruling Maoists indicate that they are not serious enough about resolving the deadlock. “The new proposal is nothing but an attempt to prolong their stay in power and defer the polls,” he added.
