No compromise on unconstitutional demands; NC Prez

NEPALGUNJ, Oct 4: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said his party had determined the priority of reaching peace process to conclusion before promulgation of the new constitution.



At a Bada Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals greetings exchange of programme organised by the Nepal Press Union Banke, he said the day when UCPN-Maoist will be free from the love of arms will be auspicious for all the Nepalese.[break]



“I will not compromise with anyone within or outside the party who bargains with unconstitutional demands”, Koirala said.



The NC president also said a party believing in democracy should fight a war of ideas rather than of bullet.



Koirala said his party will be flexible to the maximum on any agreement on the basis of democratic norms and values.



The programme was presided over by Union President Narendra Thapa, whereas CPN-UML Central Member Devraj Bhar, NC Central Member Deepak Giri, Bindu Sapkota of the UCPN-Maoist, among others, were present. 



Earlier, Koirala said he continuing with efforts at resolving the internal dispute in the party.



Speaking in a meeting with the party workers organized by the Nepali Congress Banke District working committee on Monday, party president Koirala promised to continue the efforts at keeping the party unity intact.



“Not rift but unity and goodwill are necessary in the party in the present adverse situation,” Koirala said and stressed the need for focusing attention to issuing new constitution by concluding the peace process.



Stressing that the Nepali Congress would not waver an inch from the democratic system, he said his party would not cower before anyone and surrender to other’s diktats merely for the sake of it.



Meanwhile, also on Monday the Nepali Congress president met with the flood victims at local Holiya and Betahani VDCs and acquired information about problems facing them.
