KATHMANDU, April 14: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala said on Saturday his party would not compromise on fundamental values and norms of democracy, at any cost, while writing the new constitution.

Speaking at a New Year program in the capital, Koirala also said the peace process has now taken a ´positive turn´ and attributed the outcome to his party´s ´consistently held tough instance´ against Maoists. [break]

The NC president also said the new development in the peace process has laid a foundation for the making of the new constitution.

Addressing the same program, NC Vice-president and parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said the peace process has now irreversibly moved ahead, paving the way for the new constitution.

Stating that independent judiciary would be an indispensable part while writing the new constitution, Paudel said state restructuring would be carried out based on inclusiveness, recognizing the country´s multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual realities.
