Speaking at an interaction organized by Reporters´ Club Nepal at his residence in Maharajgunj, Koirala said there is no point in extending the CA term in the current situation as there are no indications if the government would deliver peace and the new constitution. [break]
“How long will you keep extending the CA term? As long as there is a deficit of trust between the political parties, peace process will not conclude even if the CA term is extended by 10 years.” asked Koirala. “There is no point in continuing to provide allowances to 601 members in the Constituent Assembly for another one year.”
Koirala said a new consensus government should be formed to prepare grounds for concluding the constitution writing and peace process.
Accusing the Maoists of not being honest in implementing the agreements reached in the past, Koirala said both the constitution drafting and peace process can be concluded within next seven days if Maoists show honesty toward their commitment.
Koirala said that the government decision to register a bill proposing CA term extension at the parliament secretariat on Thursday without holding consultations with opposition parties had further increased mistrust among political. He also accused the Maoists of trying to retain their arms and combatants.
“Nepali Congress will not give in to their demands any more,” he said, adding: “We are not going to trust Maoists´ empty assurances.”
