KATHMANDU, April 20: United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kyung-wha Kang has expressed concern over Nepal failure to hold accountable those who violated human rights during and after the conflict.

"It is an obligation of Nepal to undertake investigations and prosecutions of all cases of serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, both during and since the conflict," the Deputy High Commissioner told a press conference before wrapping her three-day visit to Nepal.

Urging all parties to address the concerns of all victims with top priority, she added, "It is deeply troubling that to date no one has been held accountable for crimes committed during the conflict, and I raised several important cases with both the Army Chief and the UCPN-M Party represented by Deputy Prime Minister [Krishna Bahadur] Mahara."
