KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has decided to launch a fast-unto-death strike from December 13 demanding security to all health workers and health institutions.

"We decided to launch an indefinite hunger strike protesting the rising trend of demanding compensation as insurance to the hospital and doctors involved in the treatment if any patient dies in course of treatment and attacking them", said association chairman Dr. Kedar Nar Singh KC.

The government did not pay any heed towards our repeated voices for the implementation of Health Professions Act, he added.

The association has been agitating for the past calling for the scrap of provision of imposing five percent tax on health service and end of the trend of transferring health workers on the basis of the political ground.

The NMA officials met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and apprised him of the problems facing the medical sector in the country, said Singh, adding, we would take to the street if our demand was not addressed within the deadline.
