NIC directs to provide tax evasion probe report

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: The National Information Commission (NIC) has issued orders in the name of finance secretary to provide the copy of the Tax Evasion Study and Probe Report- 2067 BS on the tax evasion through fake VAT bills.



The Commission gave the orders on October 14 on the appeal made by Freedom Forum Chairman Taranath Dahal as per the Right to Information Act 2064 BS to provide the copy of it. Dahal was also involved in the drafting of the Act. [break]



Dahal had appealed for the copy at the Finance Ministry on the news of tax evasion in the country.



The commission has while stating that the reply of the Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Banskota that the report was under implementation phase, and could not be provided for being in the category of secret materials, was unacceptable.

The commission has stated that transparency decreases crime but keeping secret will increase it.
