NGO employee starts goat farming

CHITWAN, Nov 2: An employee of a Non-Government Organization has started animal husbandry here with an investment of Rs 3.5 million.



Rabi Kiran Paudel has built concrete sheds for goats in Jitpur with an investment of Rs 1.2 million in Chitwan. There are a total of 98 goats in his farm. [break]



The farm has been named ´Prakriti Goat Source Centre´. Paudel has purchased 10 Katthas of land in Dhampuse of Jitpur. Paudel has sold a plot in Bharatpur for Rs 1.5 million and taken Rs 2.5 million in loan from Rastriya Banijya Bank to start up the venture.



The centre also distributes baby-goats to rural women with support from Heifer International Nepal.



He was only an employee of Heifer before beginning his own business. “I can sell about 400 baby goats and he goats within a year,” Paudel said. He said he would earn Rs 3 to 4 million annually through the venture.



The goats are of hybrid type including Jamunapari. He also has planted grass for the goat in three bighas of leased land.
