New Zenith, Kantipur win inter-school basketball<br/>Karate selection from Monday

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: New Zenith and Kantipur lifted the boys´ and girls´ trophies respectively in the second Odyssey Inter-school Junior Boy´s and Girl´s Basketball Tournament on Sunday. [break]



New Zenith registered a comfortable 55-31 win over NIMS in the boys´ category. Dinkar Rajbhandari who scored 35 points for the winning side was adjudged the most valuable player. New Shine finished third.



In girls´ final, Kantipur had a narrow 28-22 win over NIMS. Rohini Limbu contributed 14 points for the winning side. Samikshya Neupane got the most valuable player´s award.





Karate selection from Monday



KATHMANDU, Nov 15: National karate selection tournament for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) will begin from Monday in Hetauda.



The players will compete in six categories - 55 kg, 60 kg, 67 kg, 75 kg and individual and group kata - in men´s section. Four categories are included in the women´s section -- 55 kg, 61 kg, individual and group kata.



Altogether, 144 Players from five development regions, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF) and People´s Liberation Army (PLA) will compete in the two-day-long selection, stated Kedar Babu Shiwakoti, general secretary of the host Nepal Karate Federation (NKF). Altogether 16 players will compete in the SAG.



Meanwhile, a nationwide referee technical seminar was held on Sunday. The seminar, which was attended by 60 referees, was conducted to inform players about the changes in the rules of the Asian Karate Federation and the World Karate Federation.





Inter-school volleyball from Wednesday



KATHMANDU, Nov 15: The ninth edition of the Annal Jyoti Cup inter-school volleyball tournament will kick off on Wednesday at Dholahiti, Lalitpur.



The four-day tournament will feature matches under three categories -- boys´, girls´ and boys´ mini volleyball (U-13). The organizers have expected participation of about 34 teams -- 12 each in boys´ and mini and 10 in girls´ section. The winners of each category will be awarded a trophy, medals and certificates.



The expected cost of the tournament to be held under league-cum-knockout format is Rs 121,650. Venus School are the defending champions of the boys´ and mini boys´ events while New Diamond Academy lifted the girls´ trophy in the previous edition.
