POKHARA, March 30: Latest in the series of opening of new resorts with big investment is Atithi Resort and Spa, which came into operation in Lakeside of Pokhara on Friday.

The resort, which claims to provide services equivalent to those extended by five-star hotels, was opened by Ram, Laxman, Bharat and Satrughan Sharma--four brothers of a family.[break]

Spread in 14 ropanis (approximately 1.76 acres) of land at Pokhara-6, Shantipatan, the resort, which reflects Nepali culture, was constructed at a cost of Rs 200 million.

It has 51 rooms with modern facilities, of which 24 have come into operation.

“We will open other rooms to our guests within couple of months,” said Bharat, adding, “The resort provides all facilities available in five-star hotels.”

The Sharma brothers had started construction of the resort around 14 months ago. It has modern facilities such as swimming pool, health club, a suite, deluxe and luxury rooms, well-decorated dining hall, meeting hall and a well-stocked bar.

“Our guests can enjoy views of mountain ranges from their rooms,” said Bharat.

He said Japanese, European and domestic travelers were the main target groups of the resort, which has one suite, three luxury rooms and 47 deluxe rooms.

The tariffs for single and double deluxe rooms are fixed at US$ 180 and $200 per night for foreigners, respectively. Similarly, suite is available for $400 per night.

However, Nepali visitors can hire single deluxe, double deluxe and suite for Rs 4,000, Rs 4,500 and Rs 7,500 per night, respectively.

With the end of the Maoist insurgency, tourism entrepreneurs in the country have started opening new hotels and resorts in major tourist destinations, including Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara and Lumbini.

“New hotels and resorts are mushrooming in recent years, as investors are feeling more secure about making investment in the tourism sector,” Bharat said.
