KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Nepal’s chances of advancing to the quarterfinals has virtually ended after it suffered a second straight defeat in its group stage matches, this time against Ireland , on Wednesday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first at Endeavour Park, Townsville in Australia, Ireland scored a modest 185 in maximum 50 overs, losing eight wickets. In reply, Nepal was all out for 171 in 49.3 overs, 15 runs short of the target. [break]
With the loss, there remains only a mathematical possibility for Nepal to make it to the last eight. Nepal—placed in Group A along with Ireland, England and defending champion Australia—has now only one match to play. Earlier, Nepal had lost to Australia by 212 runs.
Nepal must beat England on Thursday with a huge margin to resurrect any chances of qualification. The English side had earlier beaten Ireland. Australia has already qualified for the next stage with cent percent win results in the league round.

Nepal got 186-run target against Ireland in its second group stage match of ICC U-19 World Cup being played at the Endeavour Park in Townsville, Australia on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Ireland made 185/8 in the 50 overs with SC Getkate topscoring with 47 off 81 balls. Irish batsman AR McBrine made 41 runs where as TE Kane scored not out 39 off 49 balls.[break]
Nepali bowlers Prithu Baskota, Rahul Bishwakarma, Bhuvan Karki and Avinash Karn claimed two Irish wickets each. Banskota grabbed wickets of two openers in his ten overs spell conceding 39 runs while BK picked two wickets conceding 31 runs. Avinash Karna and Bhuwan Karki also pocketed two wickets each.
Chasing the modest target, Nepal has scored 41 runs in 8.1 overs losing a wicket. Sagar pun lost his wicket after making just 8 runs.
Nepal must overcome Ireland in its second match of Group A and beat England in the very next game on Thursday to confirm its place in the super league.
Australia qualified for the super league as the group winner while England is in the second position with a win and a defeat. Ireland is at the bottom of the table with two defeats from as many matches.
Nepal had faced a humiliating 212-run defeat against host Australia in the first match of the tournament.
