However, unlike in the past, when the pass outs had options to choose work in different sectors, they will get jobs in the manufacturing sector only.[break]
"A total of 446 female and 3,734 male applicants have passed out in the language test," said Mahesh Acharya, chief of EPS-Nepal office. As many as 36,181 applicants had appeared for the examinations held on August 28 and 29 in the capital.
A total of 42,047 Nepali youths -- the highest number of aspirants from among 15 labor exporting countries vying for jobs in Korea -- had filled the forms for the KLT exam in June last week.
“After distributing mark-sheets, we will conduct their health check-ups. Lists of the successful candidates will be sent to HRD Korea to be included in the new job roster,” Acharya told Republica.
The selected candidates will be employed in manufacturing sector only as performance of Nepali workers in other sectors has not been satisfactory.
“We expect that all those selected will get opportunity for Korean jobs as job-quotas allocated to Nepal is as much as the number of successful candidates,” Acharya said.
Korean government has allocated 4,000 quotas for Nepali youths, out of the 22,000 quotas set aside for 15 sending countries for the year 2011.
Korea has been offering around Rs 70,000 per month to Nepali workers recruited under EPS.
Keeping in view the huge number of youths vying for Korean jobs, Nepal government has recently urged Korea to increase quotas for Nepali workers.
On December 23 last year, Korea had honored Nepal as the best source country recognizing effective and fast procedure adopted by Nepal in sending workers to Korea.
Korea has opened five sectors -- agriculture, fishery, manufacturing, service and construction-- to recruit migrant workers.
Under the EPS, a total of 6,465 workers who had been selected in 2010, have left for Korea where as remaining 250 workers will get job opportunity in Korea if the Korean employers offer them jobs before the job roster is developed for the year 2011.
Nepal and Korea had signed EPS agreement on 23rd July 2007. The Korean government had introduced EPS in 2004 allowing domestic companies to hire foreign workers.
