KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Nepali Army (NA) has safely defused a suspicious object found near the Kankai Mai River bridge along the East–West Highway in Kankai Municipality–4, Jhapa.



According to the Jhapa District Police Office, a black bag containing what appeared to be a pressure cooker and wires was discovered at the site on Saturday morning. Upon receiving the information, Jhapa Police immediately sealed off the area and alerted the NA’s bomb disposal unit.

A team from the Army’s Shri Aridaman Battalion, disposed of the object at around 10 AM, police said. While the device was being taken beneath the Kankai bridge for disposal, a loud sound was heard.


A leaflet bearing the name “Sanatan Suraksha Sena Nepal” was also found at the scene. The leaflet calls for the restoration of the monarchy and the declaration of Nepal as a Vedic Sanatan Hindu state, and warns of an election boycott on March 5 if the demands are not met.
