The first edition of the Beach SAG includes 12 sports -- basketball, volleyball, netball, football, kabaddi, handball, marathon, swimming, sailing, triathlon, bodybuilding and tent pegging.[break]
Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has assigned its deputy general secretary Lama Tendi Sherpa to coordinate the preparations.
According to Sherpa, Nepal has confirmed participation in five sports only. Nepal is set to participate in volleyball, handball, basketball, kabaddi and tent pegging.
There is no tent pegging association in Nepal but horse riders of Nepal Army are preparing for the Beach SAG. Army has already sent the names of Dhruba Prasad Aryal, Khadga Bahadur Karki, Lal Bahadur Kunwar and Khildhwaj Khadka to NOC for participation at the games. Players in other sports are yet to be selected.
Sherpa claimed that there are still two more months to start formal preparations. "Sports associations are preparing on their own. As soon as the National Sports Council member secretary returns from the inspection visit of Far Western Region, we´ll start formal preparations," said Sherpa. "I´ve already talked to the member secretary and he has asked me to provide all the details."
NOC had recently met Minister for Youth and Sports Onsari Gharti and informed the latter about controversies over the legitimacy of NOC and about the upcoming Beach SAG. An NOC source told Republica that the minister was positive about Nepal´s participation and ending controversies.
