The Nepali squad will play four T20 matches with the Pakistani women´s national team between February 9 and 15. According to a press statement issued by the Cricket Association of Nepal on Sunday, Pakistan Cricket Board will bear all the expenses of the tour.
This will be the first international cricket activity in Pakistan after a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan men´s team during their tour in March, 2009.
Nepali team will leave for Kuwait on February 16. Nepal had earlier visited Pakistan in 2003 during the ICC U-19 World Cup.
New Diamond wins title
Holders New Diamond Academy defended the title of the Second New Diamond Valley-wide Inter-school Girls´ Volleyball Tournament on Sunday.
The hosts defeated Bijeshwari 25-9, 25-9, 25-11 in the final at their home court in Old Naikap to lift the title for the second time in a row.
Annal Jyoti finished third with a hard-fought 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 18-25, 16-14 win over Gyan Sudha. Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond was adjudged the best player.
She bagged a purse of Rs 2,000. Manisha Tamang of New Diamond and Renuka Bhujel of Bijeshwari won the awards for the best spiker and defender, respectively.
Other winners were Prawisha Rai (best server) of Annal Jyoti and Kripa Adhikari (best setter) of New Diamond. The winners received Rs 25,000 and the runners-up Rs 13,000.
Rajbanshi felicitated
Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) President Niranjan Rajbanshi was felicitated at Saharedangi, Jhapa on Saturday. Dhaijan Yuva Parivar presented him with a purse of Rs 11,000 and a letter of appreciation at the closing ceremony of Eastern Regional Level Volleyball Tournament.
Rajbanshi was honored for his contributions towards the development of sports in Nepal. On the same occasion, Nepali volleyball squad captain Bharat Shah, artists and social workers were also honored with letters of appreciation.
Earlier skipper Shah was felicitated with a purse of Rs 15,000 and letter of appreciation in Shankuwasabha.
VS, National into finals
VS Niketan and National Campus have booked their spots in the final on Sunday under boy´s category in the 12th Don Bosco Cup Inter College Basketball Tournament. VS defeated host Don Bosco ´A´ 48-27 in the first semifinal with 15 points from Subash Pun.
In another semifinal, National thrashed United Academy 55-37. Kebal Sunuwar scored 11 points for National. NASA and Xavier have already fixed their final spot in the girl´s category.
Valley Public, TIA champions
TIA and Valley Public clinched the senior and junior boys´ title respectively in the Fifth Kwiks Greenland Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Sunday. In course of lifting the title for third time in a row, TIA humiliated Gyan Niketan 61-33. Ashok Khadka´s 19 points in the final earned him most valuable player of the tournament. Ajay KC of the host Greenland was named best three pointers while Bhim limbu of Gyan Niketan became the highest scorer with 75 points in his kitty.
In junior boys´ category, Valley Public defeated Neric 22-18 riding on 10 points of Sanjiv Khadka. Bishal Limbu of winning side was awarded best three pointer while Sumit Rai was declared the most valuable player of the tournament. Binod Bhandar of Neric became the highest scorer of the tournament with 55 points in his kitty.
Saipal registers second win
Saipal Academy registered second win in the First Ideal Junior Boys and Staff Basketball Tournament on Sunday. Pravin Poudel´s 15 points guided Saipal to the easy victory over host Ideal School. In the next match, Teresa Academy defeated NOBS 64-57 with 15 points of Ravi Giri.
Nepali, Thapa share leads
Uttam Raj Thapa and Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali are leading the Hetauda Invitational FIDE Rating Chess Tournament with seven points each after Sunday´s matches as the tournament draws to an end with only one round remaining. Nepali had to share the top spot with Thapa after draws with Rabindra Shakya and Jitendra Rajbhandari in the eighth and ninth rounds, respectively.
Thapa, on the other hand, won both the matches of the day. He defeated Shakya and Niraj Niraula, both of whom are second with 6.5 points each. Rajbhandari and Bikash Kuluju have also collected 6.5 points. Keshav Shrestha, Nabin Tandukar, Madan Krishna Kayastha, Ganesh Man Duwal and Harish Chandra Chaulagain are trailing behind with six points each.
Nepal blind women cricket team trounces Pakistan 4-0
