Nepal Volleyball Association gets new leadership

KATHMANDU, April 10: The fifth general assembly of Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) elected Dan Bahadur Tamang as the executive committee president for the next four years.

Tamang secured 80 votes against 32 votes garnered by Gajendra Tamli. Both of them were vice presidents of the previous committee. .



Tamang has replaced Ganga Bahadur Thapa, who led NVA for the past 14 years. Thapa did not contest for presidency and instead supported Tamang during the election. Bal Gopal Shrestha had also filed for the presidency but he withdrew his candidacy at the eleventh hour.[break]



Newly elected President Tamang said that he would unite all the members of executive committee and work for the development of volleyball in Nepal.



The general assembly also elected 21-member executive committee of NVA. The general assembly went through all the election process to elect a president, two vice presidents, general secretary and  treasurer but the rest of the posts were filled  unanimously.



There were three contenders -- namely Upendra Yadav, Birendra Khadka and TL Chaudhary-- for the post of two vice presidents. Yadav and Khadka were elected after securing 81 votes each as Chaudhary got only 34 votes.



For the post of general secretary, Jitendra Bahadur Chand garnered 64 votes to outclass his contestant Buddhi Bahadur Katuwal, who secured only 49 votes. Roshan Shrestha had also filed the nomination for the post of general secretary but he pulled out his candidacy before voting began. Newly elected General Secretary Chand vowed to take Nepali volleyball to a greater heights.



Niroj Maskey was elected treasurer of the new committee. She got 54 votes while her nearest rival National Sports Council (NSC) Member Pahal Singh Gharti Magar secured 36 votes only. Another candidate Madhav KC secured only 19 votes.



Altogether 127 representatives had participated in the general assembly.



Lil Bahadur Thapa Magar and Yam Bahadur Gurung were elected unopposed as the first and second vice presidents respectively while Ram Nath Bhandari, Madan Khadka and Tanka Singh (TS) Thakuri were unanimously elected as secretaries. NVA has a provision of electing three secretaries.



Likewise, Jyoti KC, Rohit Chandra Khadka, Chandra Kumar Giri, Shreedhar Sharma, Tej Pratap Subba, Thaman Gurung, Shyam Krishna Shrestha, Sunakeshari Mali, Baram Mahat, Bhim Oli and Manabir Chhantyal were  elected as executive committee members unopposed.



Meanwhile, a meeting of the newly elected executive committee nominated seven members on Tuesday. The  members are DB Nepali, Manoranjan Sharma, Manaraj Gurung, Roshan Shrestha, Lekh Nath Mainali, Tukaraj Chhetri and Pawan Kumar Kunwar.
