Nepal was followed by Iran, South Africa, Bangladesh and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom ranked 55th out of 61 countries. Below it were the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan and Spain.

The study found that spirituality and religious faith emerged as one of the strongest predictors of a deep connection with nature. The researchers also identified that higher levels of urbanisation, higher mean income, extensive internet usage and a strong “ease of doing business” score were correlated with weaker connections to the natural world.
