Nepal, India discuss border security

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: Nepal and India on Thursday discussed border security issues during the security talks held at the joint-secretary level of both the countries.



According to an official at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the meeting, first of its kind since 2007, discussed cross-border crimes, the issue of fake Indian currency, maintenance of border pillars and setting up of security check posts along the Nepal-India border. [break]



According to an official, who participated in the meeting, the Nepali side raised the issue of "atrocities" perpetrated by India Seema Surakcha Bal along the Nepal-India border.



Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Sudhir Shah is leading the Nepali side while KK Mittal, joint secretary at the Indian Home Ministry, is leading the Indian side in the meeting that will set agendas of home secretary-level meeting between the two countries in the near future.



The home secretaries of both the sides have not met since 2009. The meeting is also expected to discuss the Indian cooperation to Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
