Nepal-China security talks on Monday

KATHMANDU, July 21: The home secretary-level meeting between Nepal-China is going to start on Monday in Beijing, China.



Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Sushil Jung Rana left for China on Saturday by leading a seven-member talks team.



Joint-secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambika Luintel, Under-secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Shambhu Ghimire, Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Arjun Jung Shahi and Additional Inspector General of Armed Police Force Durja Kumar Rai and Director at the National Investigation Department Nabraj Thapa are in the talks team.[break]



Home Ministry´s Assistant Spokesperson, Yekmani Nepal, said the security officials of two countries would discuss the measures to control criminal activities in the border areas, security systems and exchange of information to control illegal activities along the border areas, among others.



He said the meeting, that is scheduled to hold at a time when the smuggling of red sandalwood was increasing along Nepal-China border, is expected to take crucial decisions to control cross border crimes.



Assistant spokesperson Nepal said that though informal talks were held regarding the capacity building and professionalism of security bodies, the Ministry of Finance would take the final decisions in this regard.



The meeting would also review the progress of the first meeting of such kind held two years ago.
