Addressing a press conference organized on Wednesday to apprise media persons of the preparations for the NDF, scheduled for May 12-14 in Kathmandu, Dr Bhatttarai said that the government will also request donors for their support and commitment to help implement Nepal Development Strategy Paper. The paper was prepared to address the needs of the country during the transitional phase.
Developing mutual understanding between the government and the donor communities for efficient and effective mobilization of foreign aid and preparing a strategic plan to develop Nepal as an attractive destination for trade and investment are the other objectives of the NDF meeting, he said.
Dr Bhattarai also informed the gathering that the government will present four papers during the meeting. According to him, the papers, which are titled Nepal Development Strategy; Economic Restructuring; Foreign Aid and Its Effectiveness; and Trade, Private Sector Development and Prospects for Investment; will be presented on the occasion.
“The Nepal Development Strategy Paper, which is being prepared by the National Planning Commission, will highlight Nepal’s development strategy for the next three years,” he said.
Consultation meetings will be held with stakeholders in Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, Pokhara, Kathmandu and Dhangadhi, in preparation for the NDF meeting.
Suggestions collected from the consultation meetings will be incorporated into the working papers to be presented on behalf of Nepal.
The government has invited dignitaries from 45 different donor countries and donor agencies for the meeting.
