Khadka won the election by defeating CPN-UML candidate Man Kumari KC with a margin of 2,086 votes. Khadka secured a total 17,154 votes in the by election held on Saturday. UCPN (Maoist) candidate Krishna KC could secure only 2,505 votes and lost his security deposit.
The by-election was held in Baglung 1 after then member of parliament Hari Bahadur Khadka died in a road accident. NC had fielded Khadka's widow Champa Devi for the election.
Among those contesting in the election, Netra Budhathoki of Rastriya Janamorcha had secured 1,949 votes and Kul Bahadur Kisan of CPN-ML had bagged 444 votes. Likewise, Babu Ram Sharma of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal had secured 265 votes.
Of the total 52,202 voters, 32,290 voters had turned in the election for casting votes. Altogether 13 candidates including three independent candidates from various 10 political parties had contested in the election. The result of vote counting was out within six hours as Election Commission had introduced electronic voting system for the by-election.
In the CA election held in November 19, 2013, late Khadka of NC had secured a total 13,500 votes while his nearest rival Hira Bahadur Khatri of UML had got 11963 votes. Likewise, Krishna Bahadur KC of UCPN (Maoist) had secured 6,300 votes.
