KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to hold its 13th general convention by March 2016.

A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the ruling party held on Sunday decided to defer the general convention for six month as per the new provisions in the recently-promulgated constitution. The provision of the new statute allows political parties to defer holding general convention for six more months in 'special circumstances'.Earlier, the NC was scheduled to hold its general convention from September 10-14. The NC had held its 12th general convention in Kathmandu in September, 2010.

According to NC CWC member Dhan Raj Gurung, the date of the general convention will be fixed after Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, who is scheduled to fly to New York for the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, returns home.

The NC CWC meeting also thanked all those for their contribution in promulgating the new constitution including the speaker, political parties, Constituent Assembly members, bureaucrats, security personnel, experts and others. The meeting has also urged all the agitating parties to sit for negotiations to resolve their genuine demands in the new statute.
