He also criticized the foreign minister for treating an ambassador, who is appointed after getting his name endorsed duly through Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee, as a minor government employee.
Ghimire also asked Prime Minister Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal if the decision to recall envoy Rana was foreign minister´s individual decision or a cabinet decision. Speaking at a public function a few days ago, Foreign Minister Yadav had claimed that envoy Rana had failed to cooperate with the government and defied the ministry´s directives.
Ghimire also sought the details of the directives the envoy had defied as claimed by the minister.
It may be recalled that Rana was appointed as the envoy to India under NC´s quota. “It is unfortunate to find the government treating sensitive matters in this manner. The decision to recall the ambassador is the height of government´s irresponsibility,” he said.
Ghimire also asked the government, which politically has a caretaker status, not to point fingers at Nepali ambassador to UK and the USA -- both appointed under the NC´s quota.
NC lawmaker Ramesh Lekhak argued that the foreign ministry´s letter to recall envoy Rana was illegal.
During Wednesday´s meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari tabled a proposal on International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, 1999 and United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime. Several lawmakers had taken part in the discussions on the two conventions after they were tabled in the House meeting.
