NC lawmaker's office torched in Bara

MAKWANPUR, Sept 22 : Locals and cadres of agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front have intensified their protest across Tarai district from Parsa to Morang following the promulgation of the new constitution. The situation remained tense in Bara district on Tuesday.
Agitating cadres vandalized and torched the district contact office of former lawmaker Ram Ayodhya Prasad Yadav of Nepali Congress in Kalaiya Municipality-5. Property worth Rs 1 million has been damaged, informed the NC leader's relative Bijay Yadav. Meanwhile, demonstrators also vandalized Kalaiya Municipality and set ablaze its vehicle.


Police clashed with the demonstrators after the latter resorted to vandalism in government offices in Kalaiya municipality areas. To bring the situation under control, police opened fire in the air and lobbed a dozen of teargas shells, according to Chief District Officer (CDO) Bal Krishna Panthi.

Seven security personnel were also injured in the scuffle after the protestors sprinkled acid over them, Panthi informed. Pramod Gupta, leader of UDMF has alleged that a group of 20-25 police thrashed locals by entering in their residences.

At a time when the central committee of Nepal Bar Association has celebrated the promulgation of the country's new constitution, its Bara chapter has set ablaze the statute in Kalaiya municipality. “We will not accept the constitution that deprives Madhesi people's rights,” said Ramchandra Singh, district president of the association.

Demonstrators have vandalized the residence of former lawmaker Krishna Prasad Yadav, district chair of Nepali Congress in Garuda municipality in Rautahat district.
