KATHMANDU, Sept 7: A delegation of Nepali Congress parliamentarians led by party general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi demanded probe into the controversial tape conversation between UCPN (Maoist) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara and his ‘Chinese friend’.
The NC parliamentarians drew attention of Constituent Assembly chairman Subash Nembang over the issue and asked the latter to address it in the parliamentary session Tuesday. [break]
NC parliamentarians said that the controversy was a sensitive issue as it would directly affect the ongoing prime ministerial election and even the parliament´s proceedings.
Working committee of NC parliamentary party took the decision to this effect, lawmaker Nabindra Raj Joshi informed.
Earlier, activists of Civil Society also drew attention of Constituent Assembly (CA) chairman Subash Nembang over the controversial tape, Tuesday.
A group of activists reached to the CA chair’s office at Singhadurbar and submitted a memorandum asking him to form a probe committee to look into the matter.

“The scam has tarnished the image of the sovereign parliament,” the memorandum stated.
In reply, the CA chairman assured that he would take initiatives to look into the scam.
Sushil Pyakurel, Kanak Mani Dixit, Subodh Raj Pyakurel, Tika Ram Bhattarai, Bhimarjun Acharya, Shambhu Thapa and Dipendra Jha reached to the CA chair’s office.
