KATHMANDU, April 17: National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama on Tuesday said he has begun fresh initiatives to resolve the dispute between two factions in the Nepal Boxing Association (NBA).

Speaking at a function organized by Lalitpur District Boxing Association, Lama urged both the factions to help him resolve the dispute.[break]

Two NBA factions, one led by Rabi Raj Thapa and the other led by Rajiv Shrestha, are at loggerheads since February 18 after then president Thapa postponed the general assembly and Shrestha´s faction held executive committee election claiming they have the majority of the general assembly members.

NSC has not recognized either of the factions but International Boxing Association (AIBA) has already recognized the Shrestha-led committee.

"The NSC statute was silent on the general assembly and election of national sports associations," said Lama. "NSC board has recently formulated an election procedure. If the general assembly is to be postponed, a majority of general assembly members should submit a written application to NSC. Every association should conduct general assembly in the presence of Nepal Olympic Committee and NSC representatives only," he added.

Though Thapa and his panel claim to be legitimate, Thapa was not introduced as NBA president during the entire program on Tuesday. Lalitpur District Boxing Association President Ram Awale has been supporting Thapa panel.
