According to NWA President Deepak Sarkar, the proposed academy will have a building with training, office and conference room facilities. "We have already forwarded a request to National Sports Council (NSC) to provide land for building the academy at the NSC Sports Complex, Satdobato. They are positive about it," said Sarkar.
Sarkar said NWA has been discussing the project with different provincial wushu associations in China for financial assistance. "I´m sure that we could get financial assistance of at least Rs 50 million from them," said Sarkar.
He also informed that NWA has established Wushu Welfare Fund with seed money of Rs 25,000. "The welfare fund is to provide financial assistance to wushu players, coaches and officials. This is only the beginning and we´ll increase the fund in future," said Sarkar.
NWA also has plans to establish Wushu Development Fund to undertake other development activities.
"We´ll make all the necessary arrangements to develop effective training facilities in 35 member districts," informed Sarkar. "We´ll launch ´Wushu in every school´ program and provide raining facilities to 20 schools of Kathmandu valley in the first year," he added.
NWA has also announced refresher courses for coaches and special training programs for players participating in the upcoming international events.
The special general assembly of NWA had elected Sarkar as its executive committee president on Sunday. Earlier, NSC had formed an ad-hoc committee under Sarkar´s leadership. NOC had not sent any representative to observe the NWA election.
"We had sent a request letter to NOC to send its observer. Probably they couldn´t send an obsrever because of their busy schedule. Otherwise, NOC would have objected to the election process," said Sarkar. "We are hopeful that we´ll get recognition from international wushu federations," he added.
