National league to resume from Sept 4

KATHMANDU, July 9: Red Bull National League football tournament, halted due to recent earthquakes, will resume from September 4. A joint meeting of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and nine participating clubs decided to resume the league.

According to ANFA CEO Indraman Tuladhar, the football governing body has planned to end the league before Dashain festival, October 30. Earlier the league was scheduled to end on June 7 had it not been interrupted.The league being held in home and away format for the first time will run on same format. But the home ground of Kathmandu based sides Dasharath Stadium might be shifted to other venues of the capital since the stadium was damaged by earthquake and is under renovation. "The home ground of Kathmandu based teams might be shifted to other venues if the condition of Dasharath Stadium is found inappropriate to host matches after accessing the condition of before the league resumes," Tuladhar said.

Manang Marshyangdi Club, Three Star Club, Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Tribhuvan Army Club are using Dasharath Stadium as their home ground. "The home matches of Kathmandu based clubs could be played at ANFA ground- Satdobato, APF ground-Halchowk and Army ground-Lagankhel," Tuladhar said. "Construction works of parapet and dressing room are going on at the ANFA ground of Satdobato and the contractor has assured to finish it by mid-August."

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to validate the players registered in the club till the completion of league. The current football season was supposed to end on June 7 along with the league. Similarly, the meeting also agreed to re-sign foreign players who have left the country after earthquake or whose contract has already expired.

Out of 72 matches of the league, only 32 matches have been held so far. Jhapa XI FC played the last match of league on April 25, the day devastating earthquake rocked the country. Jhapa had defeated Morang XI 5-1 at its home to lead the standings. Jhapa has 16 points from eight matches while APF with a match advantage over former stands second with 14 points. Army, MMC and Three Star are third to fifth in the table with equal 11 points. Police and Far Western Football Club have seven points each while Morang and Lumbini FC are at the bottom with four points each.
