Similarly, the three-day conference that kicked off Tuesday decided to establish effective early warning mechanisms and develop modalities for cross-border immigration and security arrangements in case of Koshi floods.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the first regional seminar on disaster response and humanitarian assistance operations, Indian Army Chief VK Singh said there should be reciprocal arrangements, enough standard operatives´ procedures and enough mechanisms with South Asian countries to ensure better response to save human lives.

General Singh, who arrived in Nepal on Thursday, said, “There needs to be some sort of work plan in which all can ensure that we are assisting each other if disasters occur.”

Similarly, speaking at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Singh also expressed India´s readiness for any kind of military assistance to Nepal.

Twelve senior officers from NA, six officials from Indian Army, six US Pacific Command senior officers, including US III Marine Expeditionary Force based in Japan, Commanding General Lt Gen Kenneth J Glueck, Jr, and one officer each from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, and representatives from SAARC secretariat, National Society for Earthquake Technology, UN agencies, Red Cross Society, defense, home, finance and information and communications ministries had participated in the conference.

Likewise, army officials from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and residential military attaches from People´s Liberation Army of China, US Army, United Kingdom, Pakistan and India had played the role of observers.
