MUSTANG, Aug 28: All government schools in Mustang remained shut on Thursday and Friday due to a strike called by local teachers demanding remoteness allowance, forcing nearly 3,000 students to stay at home. At present, only teachers from outside the district get remoteness allowance.

Local teachers convened at the District Education Office (DEO) for a protest against the recent raise in the remoteness allowance for civil servants and teachers from outside the district.

A struggle committee has sent a 10-member team to Kathmandu for talks with the education and finance ministries. They have threatened to shut down schools indefinitely if their demands are not met.
