KATHMANDU, March 10: The highly anticipated Nepali revenge-drama ‘Muktipur’ hit the floors Tuesday, launching with a traditional shubha muhurta at Indrayani Temple in Basundhara. The team performed clapboard and script puja, blessing the project before shooting began, with cast and crew present at Ganesh Temple.
Directed by Sunil Pandey, the film marks his feature film debut, though he is already known for directing shorts and documentaries. Produced under Sahiba Films in collaboration with Everest Film Academy, the story is also written by Pandey himself. Everest Film Academy, a leading film training institute, steps into production for the first time with this project.

The film is set in the crime-revenge genre, exploring a family’s life-altering betrayal and the struggle for redemption. Pandey said, “The story follows the challenges the protagonist faces and how they overcome them—this is a story of struggle and ultimate triumph.”
The star-studded cast includes Najir Husen, Gaurav Pahari, Prakash Shah, and Avon Raj Upreti, while Akriti Budhathoki makes her silver-screen debut, bringing fresh energy to the film. Husen called it a key milestone in his career, promising audiences a story and performance unlike his past work. Budhathoki, with prior music video experience, said working alongside veteran actors and a skilled crew is an “enormous achievement,” and she is determined to bring her character to life.
Supporting actors include Ghanshyam Joshi, Saraswati Adhikari, Anil Kurmee, Swayam KC, Haroon Ali, Uday Ali, Sara Sharma, Anamika Lamichane, Bikash Khanal, Rupesh Lama, Aayan Pariyar, Shrawan Ramtel, Bhola Shah, Safal, Gopal Mahtara, Bimal Yadav, Ojasbi Bikram Bista, Sudip Timilsina, and Praveen Kumar Chaudhary.
With a 40-day shooting schedule, the production team is aiming to release the film within six months of wrapping up. Executive producer Bishal Shrestha said the team is fully committed to delivering a high-octane revenge drama that promises both action and emotional depth for Nepali cinema lovers.
