Mothers' groups keep vigil to curb domestic violence

MANGALBARE (Ilam), Feb 21: Police have started providing security to mothers´ groups in Ilam municipality, who have come up with night patrolling to prevent domestic violence meted out against women under alcoholic influence.



The District Police Office has deputed additional police to beef up security to mothers´ groups in patrol with its objective of reducing domestic violence and open sale of alcoholic products and enhancing social harmony and peace and security.[break]



A joint team of seven persons comprising mothers´ groups representatives, local women and men and police has intensified night vigilance to prevent domestic violence.



The local mothers´ groups along with police personnel came up with the measure after the alcoholic unruly youths unleashed terror in the houses only having women in district headquarters areas including Dhobidhara, Tilkeni, Zerokilometre and Singhfrid.



In course of the patrol, the group nabbed and sent two alcoholic youths to the police office for necessary action.



Security has been provided to mothers´ group keeping in view of possible attack in course of patrolling in the night, said Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Bhim Bahadur Dahal.
