The research carried out by Child Workers in Nepal Concern Centre (CWIN) made public on Monday said many children are sexually exploited by porn websites.[break]
"Of the total 1,380 respondents in Kathmandu Valley, 738 children using Internet for entertainment are sexually exploited," it said.
Among them, 474 boys and 264 girls were found navigating the Internet for entertainment, according to CWIN.
CWIN´s executive coordinator Sumnima Tuladhar said that 60 percent of the respondents were found chatting with unknown persons and 16 percent of them were sexually victimized.
She said that 1.7 per cent children, out of the total, were found taking a fancy to pornography site. The report has laid stress on minimizing the risks posed by Internet to children, she said.
For this, Tuladhar, said all people should teach their children about the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet. "An amendment to the Children´s Act and formulation of strict measures will also shield children from the harm of porn sites."
Bibhusan Bista of Young Innovations, an NGO, said that children should be informed about the risks of Internet.
