KATHMANDU, Sept 17: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar as his special envoy to Nepal.

Foreign Secretary Jaishankar will hold meetings with President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and various political actors in Nepal during his two-day stay beginning Friday.

"He is arriving here as a special envoy of Prime Minister Modi. He is scheduled to hold meetings with the president and the prime minister," said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tara Prasad Pokharel confirming Jaishankar's visit to Nepal.

The visit of Indian Foreign Secretary comes after the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Wednesday endorsed the Constitution Bill with vast majority despite India's suggestion that Nepal halt the process to bring the agitating parties onboard the constitution making process.

Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has left for India on Wednesday. He had held meeting with President Yadav before flying to New Delhi.

Although other countries including the US, the UK, Germany, Russia and China have welcomed the progress made toward constitution promulgation in Nepal, India has appeared unhappy with Nepal's political actors after they moved ahead with the constitution drafting process amid refusal of the agitating parties to sit for talks.
