Nepali women team overcame Yemen while men´s team was defeated by Afghanistan. The women team of host thumped Yemen 24-6 with Bandana Rai scoring the highest eight goals. [break]Nepal took control of the match in the first half and was ahead 11-1 in the match time of total 60 minutes. Nepal dominated the match in the second half as well scoring 13-5.
Meanwhile, men´s team suffered early blow as it was defeated 40-18 in the curtain raiser. Nepal had more or less a unenviable start falling behind 16-4 in the first half. Nepal came up with an improved show in the second half but was lagging behind by 10 points scoring 14 and conceding 24 goals. Mohammad Sabir was the highest scorer for the visiting side with 15 goals under his belt. Bishal Adhikari scored five goals for Nepal.
In other matches of the men´s category, India defeated Bangladesh 43-10. India dominated the show from the start to finish and took 26-4 lead before the interval. The tournament favorite was up 17-6 in the second half.
Singh duo Samsher and Neeraj scored six goals apiece for India while Suhag Hussain, Ahamad Jabir and Md Imran scored three goals apiece for Bangladesh.
In women´s second match, India edged past Bangladesh 39-18. India lead the first half 17-8 and second half 22-10. Rimpi BP was the top scorer for India with 10 goals in her name while Zharana scored five goals for Bangladesh.
The international handball tournament being organized for the first time in Nepal features six teams each in men´s and women´s section of South Asian Central Zone 2 as classified by apex handball body International Handball Federation.
The event is being organized in the league cum knockout basis. The winner of both men´s and women´s section will qualify for competition of continental zone.
