BAGLUNG, Jan 4: Education Minister Dinanath Sharma Friday blamed the ingrained impasse on the opposition’s failure to give the alternative to the current government and said that the prime minister would not resign unless there is political consensus.

Speaking at a press meet in Baglung, Sharma stressed that the next government should be led by somebody from a political party, an idea which stands contrary to the prime minister and his own party’s recent proposal that an independent personality be made the next PM. [break]

The Maoist leader also said his party is ready to concede the government leadership to Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala if the latter takes other parties including his own to confidence. "Apart from UML´s, support of other parties are required (for Koirala) to emerge next PM)," he said.

Likewise, Sharma described the revival of the Constituent Assembly as one of the two options to end the crisis, the other he stated being reaching an understanding to institutionalize gains achieved so far. He was also of the opinion that it is inappropriate to drag the president into controversy as the state head had only a ceremonial status.
