The citizenship card (48/63798) issued by then Chief District Officer Dhruba Raj Wagle, mentions his birth date as November 28, 1964.
However, his birth registration in Helambu in 1976 mentions his name as Lakel Sherpa.
He took a copy of his citizenship certificate on August 15, 2006, according to records at the DAO.
Lama was issued a Nepali passport by the Foreign Ministry in 2000. The passport (1121588) identifies him as Mr Wangchuk Rinpoche, a resident of Kathmandu-6, Bouddha.
Additionally, Lama holds an Indian passport (A-2129812) issued from Guwahati on June 12, 1998. The passport identifies him as Indian national Khenpo Chime Tsering Lama, born on October 1, 1965, in Kuligal, India.
Lama also holds a Tibetan refugee card issued from Mysore, India, in 1969, which identifies him as Tibetan national Lama Chime Tsering.
On April 19, 2005, a complaint was filed against him at the home ministry accusing him of 10 crimes, including the holding of multiple nationalities. A month later, the home ministry had directed Sindhupalhowk DAO to investigate the charges.
