The association organized a press meet on Tuesday and informed that Maruti XI, Century Conquerors, LBIF Champions and Magic makers will contest in league.[break]
The winner of the league in Kathmandu will qualify for super league round of NMCL, whereas winners of the first round of matches to be held in Biratnagar, Birgunj and Bhairahawa will contest with the winner of Kathmandu league.
The super league will begin from Saturday on the TU Cricket Ground. President of the association Surendra Golchha said they would make the league more inclusive in the years to come.
Trees planted to mark Olympic countdown
Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) and Embassy of United Kingdom in Nepal planted trees at NOC complex, Satdobato, Lalitpur on Tuesday to mark the countdown to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
British Ambassador John Tucknott, NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and NOC General Secretary Jiwan Ram Shrestha planted the trees at the NOC complex amidst a function.
NOC has started countdown for 2012 London Olympic Games as the greatest sporting event to kick off on July 27 is just 108 days away.
"We look forward to welcoming Olympians in London," said Ambassador Tucknott. "I wish luck to all the Nepali athletes and I´ll cheer for Nepali athletes in London," he added.
NOC President Pradhan briefed the ambassador on Nepal´s preparation for participation in the London Olympics. "London Olympic Games coincide with the celebration of our 50-year-old association with International Olympic Committee," said Pradhan.
Army maintains winning streak
Defending champion Nepal Army maintained its winning streak in the Fourth Nakhipot Nationwide Open Men´s Volleyball Tournament as it defeated Dhorpatan Sports Training Center 25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 26-24 on Tuesday on the court of Namuna Machhindra Higher Secondary School, Lalitpur.
It was the third victory in a row for Nepal Army in the tournament. In another match of the day, Armed Police Force (APF) defeated Kavre Volleyball Club 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 to register its second victory in the round-robin league of the tournament.
Prime, Sunsari into semis
Defending champion Prime, Sunsari, TIA and Premier on Tuesday advanced into the semifinals of Motidevi Shrestha Memorial Cup Second NeCOS Open Women´s Basketball Tournament under way at the covered hall of National Sports Council, Tripureshwar.
Prime edged past Morgan 48-31 with 13 points from Gyanu Gauchan. Sunsari defeated Kaski 39-30 riding on 11 points of Anjana Thapa Magar. TIA humiliated Chitwan 65-17. Shanti Shrestha contributed 17 points for TIA.
Similarly, Premier registered a comfortable 41-14 win over NASA. Munalini Shrestha scored the highest 14 points for Premier.
Ultra runner Pandit to scale Mt Everest
Ultra runner Sanjay Pandit is all set to scale Mount Everest in May. Pandit, who hails from Pyuthan, will leave Kathmandu on Wednesday, it was announced during a farewell ceremony organized at Golden Gate International College on Tuesday.
Golden Gate CEO Ramesh Silwal handed over the college flag to Pandit on the occasion.
According to Arjun Kumar Kakshapati, the coordinator of Sanjay Pandit Everest Expedition, Pandit will become the first athlete to conquer Everest once the expedition is completed.
Pandit has already run 2,100 km and also successfully scaled the 6,189-meter Iceland Peak.
