“We will join the government in a few days; we have held talks on the issue today [Saturday] morning,” said Dahal while addressing a function at Dapcha, Kavre district.[break]
Maoists decided to stay out of the government after the ruling CPN-UML refused to give them the home ministry and to implement the seven-point secret agreement they reached with UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal.
The Maoist party has stated that whether they would join the government would depend on what the UML decides to do next.
He argued that his party had decided to support the UML to break the tradition of forming the government backed by foreign power centers. He further said that he became successful in breaking the deadlock over government formation. “It was a great decision taken with an open heart,” he said.
He argued that the Maoist-backed government would not play with the sentiments of the people.
“This government has been formed due to our initiative, backing and sacrifice. So the government will not neglect the people´s aspirations,” he claimed.
Much depends on UML move: Shrestha
Maoist Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha, however, said that the stand-off between his party and the UML continues.
“How the politics will unfold depends on the next move of the UML,” he said. Shrestha also said Maoists are holding informal talks with the UML in this regard. “But what really matters is the UML´s official stance on the seven-point agreement.”
Maoists have stated that they would not join the government unless the UML officials agree to implement the agreement and give them the charge of the home ministry.
