Top leaders of the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based parties at the prime minister´s residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning said the Baburam Bhattarai-led government should be transformed into a national consensus government. [break]
“We have decided to stand in favor of giving the Bhattarai-led government the shape of a national consensus government,” said a senior Madhesi leader on the condition of anonymity, adding, “The Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML should join the government as it has accomplished the tasks of the peace process that previous governments had failed to.”
Minister for Information and Communications Rajkishor Yadav, who is also the Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican (MPRF-R), said that they have agreed to consolidate the present coalition for timely promulgation of the new constitution.
According to Yadav, the Maoist and Madhesi leaders also agreed not to give up their stance on the formation of Constitutional Court (CC).
However, the ruling partners agreed to hold further discussions with NC and CPN-UML to forge consensus on contentious issues in constitution writing.
Chairman of Sadbhavana Party (SP) and Health Minister Rajendra Mahato said the Maoist Party and UDMF are yet to forge a common stance on contentious issues of constitution writing. “We are yet to reach an agreement on the number of federal states in Madhes and system of governance, among other issues.”
