In a meeting held at the Maoists´ Parliamentary Party Office in Singha Durbar, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal sought the support of fringe parties for the formation of such a government. [break]
Altogether 12 fringe parties including CPN (ML), CPN (Samyukta), Nepa Rastriya Party, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, Dalit Janajati Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Rastriya Janamukti Party, Nepal Family Party and Janata Dal participated in the meeting.
The Maoists had deliberately chosen not to invite the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic) for the meeting.
Talking to media after the meeting, Maoist Vice-Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said all the parties attending the meeting suggested that the current government was a stumbling block to peace and the constitution-drafting process.
He added that the parties suggested forming a national consensus government to take the peace process to a logical end and promulgate the new constitution on time.
Dr Bhattarai said the Maoists could also think of a no-confidence motion against the government for the formation of a national consensus government.
"It will be good if the government choses to step down on its own. Else, we will think of other alternatives," he further said.
He, however, said that the party has not reached any firm conclusion.
Responding to journalists´ queries, Dr Bhattarai ruled out the possibility of turning the present Madhav Kumar Nepal-led government into a national government.
"It is universally accepted that those discarded and defeated by the people cannot provide leadership to a national consensus government," Dr Bhattarai said journalists.
