KATHMANDU, Dec 6: The UCPN (Maoist) on Monday began collecting signatures of the lawmakers to press the government to summon the parliament session.

“We have taken initiative to press the government for regular session at the earliest,” Maoist chief whip Post Bahadur Bogati said. “We are also collecting signatures to demand a special session if government does not summon regular session.”[break]

Bogati said that the Maoist has also intensified talks with Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML in this connection. He added that ‘the chief whips of three major political parties reached a consensus that the parliament session should be called at the earliest’.

NC chief whip Laxman Ghimire said that House session should be called at the earliest. However, he added that NC is not in the favor of demanding special session.

The *president should call special session within 15 days if one-fourth of the parliamentarians so demand.

On Sunday, a meeting of Maoist´s top office bearers had decided to demand special session of the legislature-parliament, if the government does not call winter session soon.
