Earlier, the commission, headed by Amik Sherchan, was extended for one month. [break]
"The main reason for extension is we could not complete the work as scheduled," said commission member Lokendra Bista Magar.
According to commission coordinator Sherchan, the commission has received around 65 complains against party leaders.
According to party sources, most of the complains are against party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai´s wife Hisila Yami, former People´s Liberation Army (PLA) deputy commanders Janardan Sharma and Barsh Man Pun and Trade Union chief Shalik Ram Jamkattel.
UCPN (Maoist) had formed the commission after the party´s extended meeting in Kathmandu last July was halted with demands for such a probe body.
To allow the extended meeting to continue, the Maoists had formed two probe commissions and asked both to submit their reports to party headquarters within a month.
One commission, led by Posta Bahadur Bogati, was assigned to investigate financial irregularities at the PLA cantonments and the other, under Sherchan, was asked to investigate property owned by party leaders.
The Bogati-led commission just questioned PLA deputy commanders and has not moved further ahead.
Expressing disagreement with the term extension, party cadres and lower level leaders have said that it will be extended still further, and if the report is made public, it will be just eye-wash.
"We don´t care who argued what. Rest assured that we will make public a report recommending action against whoever has done wrong," claimed Magar.
Issuing a statement, commission head Sherchan said that the report will be made public by 19 October.
Khagaraj Bhatta, who is loyal to party Vice-chairman Bhattarai, urged party cadres not to harbour suspicions before the report comes out. He said, "We should help the commission do its work effectively."
He argued that there are mainly three major reasons for the delay: the big size of the central committee [now general convention organizing committee], the complexity of the probe, and the duel responsibilities of commission members.
Magar and Nabaraj Subedi, a commission member, are coordinators of the Magarat and Tharuwan state committees respectively.
