Pushpa´s husband Man Bahadur Pariyar is the village unit secretary of Tarun Dal -- youth wing of the Nepali Congress. A few days ago, Man Bahadur had appealed to the administration to stop timber smuggling taking place in the district. Thereafter, the Maoists had been harassing him and threatening him. [break]
“I leant that they had gone to my house several times,” said Man Bahadur, who was out of the village on personal business. Man Bahadur works as a marketing manager for a firm that manufactures ayurvedic medicine.
“On Thursday also, they reached my house looking for me. After being unable to find me, they beat up my wife,” he said.
In the beginning, the cadres had attempted to attack his father. But after Pushpa and her mother-in-law sent the old man inside the house, they attacked the two women.
The mother-in-law has received minor injuries. But Pushpa, who is four months pregnant, has marks all over her body.
She was taken to Rapti Sub-Regional Hospital in Ghorahi on Friday.
But Naresh Rokka, YCL´s VDC in-charge, denied YCL involvement in the incident.
