Maoist, UML leaders hold talks

KATHMANDU, May 3: Top leaders of the Unified CPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML held a meeting at the UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal’s residence in Dallu Monday afternoon.



The leaders of both parties stated that the talks ended on a positive note.[break]

 

Talking to reporters after the meeting, UCPN Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said the bilateral meeting focused on six-point agenda set earlier.



“We are holding talks to strike a package deal and we are ready to call off the general strike once we reach an agreement,” he said adding that the protest launched by his party is just for pressure on the ruling parties to reach consensus.



UML leader Bishnu Poudel said that the government change cannot be dealt with in isolation and it can be done either through the parliamentary process or political consensus.



Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML chairman Khanal led their respective teams in the meeting.
