Maoist, UDMF to continue efforts to forge consensus on disputed issues

KATHMANDU, May 22: A meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Tuesday decided to continue their efforts to forge consensus on the contentious issues in the new constitution through dialogue and deliberation as well opt for voting if the dialogues among parties fails to yield any desired results as the Constituent Assembly (CA) deadline approaches near.



The meeting held at Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat this morning also decided to form an alliance among the Maoist, Madhesi parties and indigenous lawmakers from various parties, to finalize the disputed issues through voting in the CA, informed Rajendra Mahato, a UDMF leader and chairman of Sadbhawana Party.[break]



According to him, the leaders emphasized on the need of forging agreement either on the 10-province model recommended by the State Restructuring Commission or the 14-province model forwarded by the Committee for Restructuring of the State and Distribution of State Powers of the CA.
