KATHMANDU, Nov 27: The Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Teachers´ Organization has decided to shut down all schools across the country on December 7, saying that the government did not pay attention to its demands.

Chairman of the organization Gunaraj Lohani said they decided to shut down the schools after the government paid no heed to their demands even after a sit-in at the Education Ministry for weeks. Before the shutdown, the organization plans to hand a memo to the Education Minister on Nov 29.

Secretary of the Temporary Teachers´ Struggle Committee Dinesh Thapa said further protests will be called if their demands are not met. The sit-in at the ministry will continue, the organization said.

The organization has been demanding permanent appointment for temporary teachers and scrapping of Company Act to govern schools, among others. It has been staging sit-in at the ministry for the last three weeks.
