BIRGUNJ, Parsa, Jan 26: A forest patrol team of the Nepal Army has arrested a Unified CPN (Maoist) Constituent Assembly (CA) member while illegally felling trees at the Haraiya national forest area in Parsa district.

The forest patrol team of the army arrested CA member Chandadevi Ram on Monday when she was cutting down trees in the forest. Ram was nominated CA member by the UCPN (Maoist) under the proportional election system.[break]

Chief of the Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Tulasiram Sharma said the CA member was released in the evening the same day.

The forest patrol team also confiscated two saws and an axe used in cutting down trees from the CA member who is a local of Haraiya village in the district.

However, the CA member denied she was arrested by the army and instead alleged the army personnel of looting her saws and axe.

The Parsa Wildlife Reserve has mobilized the army to carry out patrolling in the forest citing an increase in the illegal felling in the forest in that area in recent days. RSS
