“It is really worrying that an ambush had been set up in the forest that is under consumers´ vigilance,” said Morang President of the Community Forest Consumers Federation Agni Poudel.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Suresh Adhikari said the ambush might have been laid by poachers to kill wild animals in the forest. The police said search is on for those involved in laying the ambush.
“Even the members of the forest committee are under investigation,” a police officer said. However, the members of the forest committee denied their involvement.
There are around 125 community forests in the district that are a habitat to deer, wild boar and many birds.
Poudel claimed poachers were active in forests across the district.
Chief of the District Forest Office, Morang Lal Narayan Singh said, “We have even found involvement of consumers in poaching activities,” Singh added.
